The Tri Health Clinic is proud to offer the option to work with Clinical Psychology Graduate Students.
Working with a clinical psychology graduate student means working with a highly trained clinician who is closely supervised by a licensed psychologist. You benefit from advanced training, careful clinical oversight, and a team-based approach to your care, often at a more accessible fee. When we recommend this option, it is because we believe it is a strong fit and an excellent standard of care.

Meet Megan Henkelman
So, maybe sex feels more like stress and less like how it is “supposed” to be. Maybe the scripts just don’t fit—your body reacts differently, your mind doesn’t cooperate, or your identity doesn’t line up with what the world has told you about what sex and relationships should look like. Maybe you’ve been struggling to communicate your needs or have been stuck in your head—ruminating on worries and distracting thoughts during sex instead of tuning into your partner(s) and your own sensations. You might be asking yourself: “Is this normal?” or “Why can’t I just relax and enjoy this?” Whether you’ve been avoiding sex altogether or pushing through physical or emotional discomfort, it’s easy to feel like something’s wrong with you—especially when the world offers very narrow definitions of what sex and intimacy should look like. But the truth is you’re not broken and you’re not alone.
In therapy with me, you’ll find a space where your lived experience—whatever it looks like—is met with curiosity, not judgment. I use evidence-based approaches like acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to help you get out of unhelpful thought loops, build more flexibility in how you respond to challenges, and reconnect with what matters to you—whether that’s pleasure, intimacy, or simply feeling comfortable in your body. I work with individuals and couples of all identities and backgrounds, including those who are neurodivergent, 2SLGBTQIA+, or just plain tired of trying to fit into sexual norms that never fit them in the first place. I use metaphor and education to make the work both digestible and human. We’ll sit with hard emotions, challenge rigid stories, and build tools to support your goals and personal values. My goal isn’t to “fix” you—it’s to work myself out of a job by helping you build the tools and confidence to move forward on your own terms.
I am currently a Ph.D. clinical psychology student in the Sexual Health Research Laboratory at Queen’s University where I study sexual wellbeing in gender and sexual minority and majority individuals. I have both research and clinical experience in these areas. I have presented on or published on the topics of sexual wellbeing, inclusive measure development for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, sexual arousal, “blue balls” (epididymal hypertension), and sexuality after cancer. I have additionally co-lead group therapy programs for chronic pelvic pain and genital pain.
Outside of the clinic, I enjoy skiing, camping, and whatever craft is currently of interest (right now its hand building ceramics).
