Couples Therapy Kingston For Sex Therapy, Marriage Counselling, Or Just To Spice Things Up!

Every Couple Can Benefit From Couples Counselling

Couples relationships aren’t always easy. Each comes with its own set of challenges, changes, and compromises.

When we choose to live with someone for the rest of our life, it’s important to enjoy it! Couples counselling is not always about problems, sometimes it’s about turning a good thing into a really good thing. There are many benefits to couples counselling both in and outside of the bedroom.

What is Couples Therapy?

Couples therapy is when participants in a relationship meet with a therapist to talk through their relationship dynamics. The reasons a couple may choose therapy can vary, including sex therapy, pre-marital counselling, relationship changes, infidelity counselling, intimacy therapy, sexual communication training, sexual dysfunction, and more.

Couples therapy often includes regular meetings with a registered therapist who talks through the concerns of the couple, using science-based principles, like emotion-focused techniques and other holistic approaches.

Consider Having a Positive Relationship With Yourself

Many couples think that couples therapy is a negative thing. But it’s not – couples therapy is just like personal therapy. Talking through concerns, conflicts, or changes with a professional can be helpful and enlightening for everyone.

Even if you or the relationship do not have any “known” issues, you can use couples therapy to learn more about you and your partner, their sexual desires, their communication style, develop a deeper connection before marriage, or rekindle the spark after years together.

Love Sense: The Revolutionary New Science of Romantic Relationships

Every day, we hear of relationships failing and questions of whether humans are meant to be monogamous. LOVE SENSE presents new scientific evidence that tells us that humans are meant to mate for life. Dr. Johnson explains that romantic love is an attachment bond, just like that between mother and child, and shows us how to develop our “love sense”–our ability to develop long-lasting relationships. Love is not the least bit illogical or random, but actually an ordered and wise recipe for survival. LOVE SENSE covers the three stages of a relationship and how to best weather them; the intelligence of emotions and the logic of love; the physical and psychological benefits of secure love; and much more. Based on groundbreaking research, LOVE SENSE will change the way we think about love.

Hold Me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love

Heralded by the New York Times and Time magazine as the couple therapy with the highest rate of success, Emotionally Focused Therapy works because it views the love relationship as an attachment bond. This idea, once controversial, is now supported by science, and has become widely popular among therapists around the world.

In Hold me Tight, Dr. Sue Johnson presents Emotionally Focused Therapy to the general public for the first time. Johnson teaches that the way to save and enrich a relationship is to reestablish safe emotional connection and preserve the attachment bond. With this in mind, she focuses on key moments in a relationship-from Recognizing the Demon Dialogue to Revisiting a Rocky Moment-and uses them as touchpoints for seven healing conversations. Through case studies from her practice, illuminating advice, and practical exercises, couples will learn how to nurture their relationships and ensure a lifetime of love.

ADHD After Dark: Better Sex Life, Better Relationship

By Ari Tuckman

This pioneering book explores the impact of ADHD on a couple’s sex life and relationship. It explains how a better sex life will benefit your relationship (and vice versa) and why that’s especially important for couples with one partner with ADHD.

Grounded in innovative research, ADHD After Dark draws on data from a survey of over 3000 adults in a couple where one partner has ADHD. Written from the author’s unique perspective as both an expert in ADHD and a certified sex therapist, the book describes the many effects of ADHD on couples’ sex lives and happiness, covering areas such as negotiating sexual differences, performance problems, low desire, porn, making time for sex, infidelity, and more. The book outlines key principles for a great sex life for couples with ADHD and offers strategies and treatment interventions where specific issues arise.

Polysecure: Attachment, Trauma and Consensual Nonmonogamy

By Jessica Fern

Attachment theory has entered the mainstream, but most discussions focus on how we can cultivate secure monogamous relationships. What if, like many people, you’re striving for secure, happy attachments with more than one partner? Polyamorous psychotherapist Jessica Fern breaks new ground by extending attachment theory into the realm of consensual nonmonogamy. Using her nested model of attachment and trauma, she expands our understanding of how emotional experiences can influence our relationships. Then, she sets out six specific strategies to help you move toward secure attachments in your multiple relationships. Polysecure is both a trailblazing theoretical treatise and a practical guide.

These resources are intended as a compliment to therapy under the guidance of a trained sex therapist.
